The Challenge
As self-checkout lanes expanded and staffing levels shifted, Lowe’s needed stronger front-of-store loss prevention measures to reduce shrink and protect revenue. Traditional closures — such as thin chains or ropes — were insufficient, as shoplifters could easily step over or duck under them. Lowe’s required a professional, effective, and operationally aligned solution for securing unmanned register aisles.
The Solution: ZonePro by Modus
Lowe’s incorporated ZonePro® barriers across its front-of-store operations by mounting retractable 3-foot-high mesh banners — designed in Lowe’s signature blue — onto each register aisle using custom brackets for a precise fit.
The barriers prevented unauthorized exit through unmanned lanes while maintaining a polished appearance. When aisles needed to be open, the banners retracted smoothly into a compact 4-inch aluminum canister, preserving space and ensuring easy passage for carts and customers. A push-through latch was added to support emergency egress, aligning the system with safety requirements.
