Retail environments are dynamic spaces where security, efficiency, and customer experience converge. For Lowe’s, a national leader in home improvement, bolstering front-of-store loss prevention measures was essential for protecting revenue.
The Problem:
With the rise of self-checkout lanes and reduced staffing, mitigating losses due to theft or “shrink” became a top priority for Lowe’s. Traditional methods, such as using thin chains or ropes to close registers, proved inadequate for the modern retail environment given that shoplifters could simply go over or under them. Lowe’s needed a solution that was sleek, effective, and aligned with their operational standards.
The Solution:
To address these challenges, Lowe’s added ZonePro® barriers to its front-of-store operations. Mounted units housing retractable, 3-foot high mesh banners in Lowe’s signature blue color were attached to every register aisle using custom brackets for a perfect fit. This ensured that lanes could be effectively blocked off while maintaining a professional appearance. In the case of an emergency, a push through latch was added to ensure easy egress.
While the bold, visually appealing barriers prevent unauthorized exits when deployed, they simply retract into a sleek, 4-inch aluminum canister when the register is in use. The unit’s small footprint means that carts and customers can easily pass through aisles without having to remove it.
The Results:
The implementation of ZonePro® barriers brought immediate benefits to Lowe’s. Incidents of shrink were significantly reduced as the barriers restricted access to unmanned registers, directly supporting loss prevention efforts.
